I love to design and wear crochet earrings! They are easy to make, easy to style, and can match any outfit.

This design was inspired by all the summers I’ve spent wandering different shores, looking for whatever treasures have washed up on the sand.

These make the perfect summer accessory, or easy handmade gift. So grab your hooks, and lets make some Sand Dollar earrings!

What You’ll Need

Materials

  • Yarn – I like to use Curio #10 yarn from KnitPicks. You’ll want about 10 yards of yarn for one pair of earrings.
  • Fabric Stiffener – To strengthen the earrings, I use Aleene’s Fabric Stiffener.
  • Earring hardware – You will need a pair of earring hooks and some jump rings to add the hooks to the earrings. You can use whatever style of hook you like, I usually go for French hooks in whatever color matches my earrings.

Tools

  • Tiny Crochet Hook – I used a size 0.75mm crochet hook. Adjust hook size for bigger or smaller earrings.
  • Tapestry needle – for weaving in ends.
  • A pair of small pliers and a jump ring opener – to open and close the jump rings.

Weaving in Ends

When all the crocheting is done, use a small tapestry needle or a large embroidery needle to weave the ends of the yarn into the back of the earrings. With the ends secure, you can trim them away.

Stiffening the Earrings

Slightly dilute your stiffener liquid and submerge your earrings, making sure they are completely saturated.

Blot out excess liquid into an old towel and lay the earring out to dry in the shape you want them to be.

Adding Earring Hooks

When the earrings are dry, add your earring hooks using a small pair of pliers and some jump rings.

Make sure you keep all the rings lined up, so the final earrings will hang in the orientation you want.

Now your crochet earring are ready to wear!
